Short Introduction To Child Sponsorship
The children of the world, become the adults of the world and therefore ‘the future’ of the world
Children are the most vulnerable when it comes to abuse, trafficking, mistreatment, and injustice. Children have needs that must be met by the adults around them and when there are no adults to meet these needs or the adults around them are unable to meet them, children suffer. Many of these adverse experiences can be prevented and stopped through the generous and selfless giving of other human beings who are more fortunate.
Sponsoring children who are less fortunate helps to alleviate some of the very causes for ‘human trafficking,’ sexual slavery, prostitution and criminal activity. Parents who are poverty stricken and have children may be more desperate to find ways to feed their family which can place people at risk for falling prey to traffickers and criminal activity. Some families may need some assistance in order to gain their footing and be able to support their children.
Sponsoring children may also be an option if you or your family are not in a position to foster or adopt. Imagine being a child whose parents can’t afford basic needs such as food, clothing, electricity, shelter or education. If the parents are trapped in unhealthy cycles then these children are more vulnerable to fall prey and follow in the very footsteps of their parents. The children could also be taken advantage of due to the situation and made a victim of human trafficking or other types of harmful experiences.
Below are some benefits of child sponsorship and what it can provide:
– relief and provision for needy children
– aid and sustenance for families in need
– hope for those who have no hope
– a way out of adverse situations and vulnerability
– provision for future education
– help change a child’s life and future
– prevent crime and inhuman situations from continuing for years to come
One way to help children is to find a reputable organization that is able to help the children ‘hands on’ and provide them with the aid by giving financially. This is just one way that someone can help. Below are other things that one can do to get involved in helping and sponsoring children in need.
Other ways to help and sponsor children:
– involvement in a community program or outreach
– being a ‘father’ or ‘mother’ figure towards children in a family without a father or mother
– helping a single mom or dad in your community by providing financial aid, babysitting, or acting as a mentor to the child or parent in need
– getting involved in helping foster families (there are numerous ways to help foster families)
– ‘big brother’ and ‘big sister’ programs
– including less fortunate children (or those who have experienced loss) in family events during the holidays or special occasions
– starting a community outreach for young or older children
– being involved in (or creating) sports programs for children
Some people may not have the money to provide ‘help’ for the children, but they can physically ‘be there’ for them and help to take care of them. Some people may not be able to ‘be there’ physically but they have financial aid that could provide the physical needs that some children so desperately need. Both of these ‘types’ of help are needed and just as important.
Changing The World
If you are in a position to help sponsor children in some form or another the positive outcome will include impacting future generations as well as the community by your selfless service.
There will also be some very grateful children and families on the other side of your gifts, generosity, and kindness. Whether you can give a little, a lot, or be there ‘physically’, every bit helps to alleviate the epidemic of human trafficking, child slavery and the orphan crisis around the world. It has been said that helping ‘one child’ won’t change the world, but for that child, you have changed their ‘whole world.’ I would have to say that even helping, ‘one child’ has the potential to impact the world, based on what that child grows up to become which could be the very result of one person’s kindness.
If every person reaches out to ‘help’ their fellow human (and in this case children) the world can, and will be a far better place- and perhaps ‘together’ we can start a revolution.
Ways To Help Children
Child sponsorship does not have to be limited to giving to an orgsnization. There are many other ways to get involved and help children in your community and around the world. Helping those in need will not only improve the lives of those being assisted, but the world at large as each person reaches out to impact those around them.
