Proverbs 17: 22
‘A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.’
The human spirit is housed in the physical body to interact in this physical realm and dimensions.
If the spirit has been wounded or broken there will be an impact on the physical body because they are intricately connected.
The proverb states that a broken spirit dries up the bones. How many people suffer from brittle or weak bones and also have a wounded spirit?
The proverb also states that a happy heart is like good medicine. Research has shown that those who had hope and a source of happiness lived longer and had reduced risk of stroke, heart disease, cancer and other health issues.
How does one experience true happiness? Human beings at their core have a need that when met provides hope, joy, worth and value. Love is the answer. When people know that they are loved and they are secure in this love it changes everything. When they are fully connected to the source of Love and are able to receive this love continually it produces life and healing.
This is not a mental knowledge of love, but a genuine deep belief in the spirit that they are loved. The need and fulfillment of knowing that someone is loved by God, Who is Love provides life and strength not only to the spirit but also to the body.
Psalm 147: 3
‘He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds [curing their pains and their sorrows].’
The Psalmist shared that God heals the broken-hearted. The human spirit is often broken due to rejection, trauma, abuse, and abandonment from others. These wounds could cause one to be unable to receive God’s love for them. When one is able to have their heart healed by God and receive His Love in their spirit it will produce life in their body.
The need for heart healing is immense and many people are in need of inner healing and peace which will translate into physical healing too. Many physical ailments stem from a wounded heart and spirit.
Some people may need help to experience healing in their hearts especially if severe trauma has occurred. This area has often been overlooked as it pertains to physical healing. One may want to consider the area of the human spirit in their healing journey.
