Practical Ways To Battle Human Trafficking

This article has been written in the hopes of  sharing some ways to get involved in helping those who have been trafficked and how to help prevent human trafficking

This article has been written for all of those out there who desire to join the fight against human slavery in this generation.

Firstly, there is not a ‘one size fits all’ approach to helping those who have experienced trafficking, but there are some ‘beneficial’ things to know across the board if you desire to help prevent trafficking and help those who have already been trafficked.

It can be very helpful to have some practical ideas to join this battle. You may also be able to use your creativity to come up with more.

First Steps When Joining The Battle Against Trafficking

Human trafficking is a serious crime and it mostly occurs in ways that are not always obvious. This topic could seem scary or overwhelming, but just as with anything in life, the more one understands about a topic the easier it becomes to take a closer look. There are many different ways that one can join the fight against human trafficking and below are just a few for one to consider. There may be some repetition in this article because these points are so vital.

Pray:

Ask the Heavenly Father to help you as you pursue His will and how He would have you get involved in combatting human trafficking. Pray that you will be led to the right resources for research, education and understanding of this topic. Pray that you would know where to start and what your part is in the battle against human slavery. Pray every step of the way while allowing the Lord to lead you. You could pray and ask the Lord to help those who are held captive and to protect others from being taken. Pray for the traffickers to have encounters with God and to be apprehended first by Him and then by the police.

Education and research:

Find out about what human trafficking is and then research the different types of human-trafficking

Research any information about trafficking in your area and part of the world. Look for information about how to join the fight against human slavery. Help raise awareness and help educate others about what human trafficking is and the different ways that humans are trafficked whether they are babies, children or adults.

Be aware of those around you.

Learn the signs of human trafficking and what you can do if you see something that seems suspicious. Plan what you would do if you came across someone who appears to be in a dangerous situation. You could find out if there is any local organization or ministry that knows about human trafficking. Pray about how to handle every situation and how to help.

Raise money to send to reputable organizations helping victims, but only send it after you have researched these places and found out where the money goes. It can be helpful to visit or volunteer at a place where you are considering sending finances to help survivors of trafficking. You could also raise money to give to at-risk people groups who may be targeted because of their needs. Single parents, those experiencing financial hardship, orphans, or anyone in need may be targeted by traffickers.

Find ways that you could help provide jobs or help provide a service that could help survivors find jobs or support. If you come across someone who needs help then you will have some idea of what to offer them. Research how to help provide jobs to those who have experienced trauma as many survivors of trafficking may find it hard to make an income because of post-traumatic stress.

The most important step would be to ask God if He is calling you to be a support person to someone who has been trafficked and what kind of support He wants to help you offer.

Practical Ways To Join The Fight Against Human Trafficking

-Reach out: pray about ways that you can reach out to either vulnerable people or organizations who are looking for volunteers.

-Adoption: many vulnerable children have been left in dangerous situations due to a lack of protective guardians. Traffickers may try to take advantage of the situation especially because so many children are in need.

-Foster care: children are often removed from dangerous situations only to be taken in by abusers who pretend to be safe people through foster care. The more safe people who get involved in fostering children, the greater the chance of children being placed into a safe home

-Provide jobs: those who have been trafficked may have a hard time finding a job due to either lack of education, post-traumatic stress or another hardship. Some vulnerable people may be trafficked if they are not able to obtain a job. One may need to have training to know how to help those who have experienced trauma before hiring a survivor of abuse.

-Proving a home: survivors of trafficking need homes. Local safe homes may not always be the best place for every survivor. Some are trafficked because they do not have a home and some who escape may need a home so that they are not re-captured or left vulnerable. One may consider receiving training to understand trauma, trafficking effects and other issues like post-traumatic stress before opening their home or opening a home for survivors.

-Provide a service: survivors of trafficking may not have the money to afford many services such as dental work, seeing a counsellor, having physical therapy or any other types of needed therapies. One may consider offering free services to those in need.

-Provide a listening ear: many people have no one to talk to and no one who will give them any attention. If you believe that you are called to help others in this area you may want to consider praying and asking the Holy Spirit how He wants you to go about this and who He wants you to help.

-Host either a breakfast, lunch, dinner or event to help raise awareness, support and funds to help those who have been trafficked. Share information with those in business and talk about ways they could get involved in providing support.
